Why an illustrated postcard is a great gift?
It’s hard to say exactly when greeting cards appeared (according to one version, the first Christmas card appeared in England in 1794). That’s a topic worth writing a separate article about, but we’re here to finally convince you that an illustrated card is a great gift.
I don’t know about you, but throughout my childhood, no holiday was complete without a card. I received them for my birthday, March 8, and Valentine’s Day (I’ll include these first expressions of love in the list of cards as well). In turn, I could not help but buy them in return. I still don’t remember if I gave money to my classmate for a shiny card that said “CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WEDDING DAY” in horrible gold letters. Then, on the back, in even more terrible handwriting, I wrote “congratulations on your wedding day” AGAIN and indicated who it was from.
I had a few favorites in my collection of old postcards – usually funny pictures with animals and motivational inscriptions, but the first place in the top was definitely occupied by a music card. You have to think of something like that! From time to time, I like to look through them, re-read the wishes and immerse myself in memories.
It’s always nice to receive cards, but there are exceptions:
1) Two people gave you a card with the same design.
2) The guy you like gave the same card to the whole class
3) The card you’ve been saving for for three days turns out to be a copy of the one your mom’s friend brought you.
At such a moment, you immediately lose the sense of uniqueness and specialness that every person needs. That’s why, after such incidents, I started drawing cards by hand. Oh, the magical era of felt-tip pens and colored pencils!

I’ve grown up, but the desire to give unique cards hasn’t disappeared. My first test subjects were my parents. My dad was drawn surrounded by “masculine” things: a car, a soccer goal, a tennis racket, a beehive, etc. Mom always wore a crown on her head and was the winner of all the contests. One of her favorite subjects was space and us being green aliens. And you know what? They were happy. They were really happy. It was very nice to see their reaction when their eyes take on the shape of a bent dumpling and a smile appears on their face.
Every year, these cards were supplemented with new details and stories, and then they became not just a piece of paper with a signature, but a part of recorded history.
It is a pleasure to look at a personalized postcard, to find new details and hidden meanings in it every time, to compare the similarities with yourself. It’s also a great way to show your care and concern, to hug from a distance.
If you’ve read this far, I hope I’ve convinced you, but if not, read the article again 🙂
